She made her debut for the Sweden women’s national football team in 2011 and won her 100th cap in 2019. Sofia Jakobsson Club Career
After one year in the second division with Osters IF, Jakobsson, then 17 years old, signed with national champion Ume IK. During her five years with Ume, she won two titles, one national cup and the UEFA Women’s Cup for the first time.
Since 2009, when Ume lost its top spot in the Damallsvenskan, Jakobsson moved to the Russian winner WFC Rossiyanka so that she could play in the UEFA Women’s Champions League again.
In January 2013, Jakobsson signed with Chelsea Ladies. She scored a 1-1 tie with Birmingham in her first game. In her next game, against Doncaster Rovers Belles, she scored twice. She scored in her third Women’s Super League game in a row, which helped her team beat the Liverpool Ladies 2-1. She got two more goals in the last eight games, making her tied with Eniola Aluko for the most goals scored for Chelsea.
With three WSL games left until the end of the season, she and her teammate Ester went to the German Bundesliga and signed with BV Cloppenburg, which had just been promoted. In July 2014, Jakobsson signed with the French Division 1 Féminine team Montpellier HSC.
In July 2019, Jakobsson joined Real Madrid Feminino, a team in the Spanish Primera División. At the time, the team was called CD Tacon, and Kosovare Asllani, another member of the same national team, also played there. During her first season in Spain, Jakobsson led the capital club in both goals and assists, with eight and seven goals.
In June 2021, Jakobsson told Real Madrid that she was leaving. On July 2, 2021, she signed with Bayern Munich of the Frauen-Bundesliga, the best league in Germany. In January 2017, when she was working with her French club, Jakobsson hurt her anterior cruciate ligament. She couldn’t go to the UEFA Women’s Euro 2017 with Sweden.
In April 2019, Jakobsson got her 100th cap. To celebrate, she scored a goal in a friendly match between Sweden and Austria, which Sweden won 2-0 in Maria Enzersdorf.
Germany took the lead early in the Quarter-Final of the 2019 Women’s World Cup. Ten minutes later, Jakobsson made a goal that tied the game. Sweden won the game, the first time they had beaten Germany in a big tournament since the World Cup in 1995. She also scored the winning goal in the match for third place against England. She did this in the 22nd minute.
In the Quarter-Final against Germany and the 3rd Place Match against England, Sofia was chosen as the player of the match.
