Theo Corbeanu Club Career
Toronto FC
Corbeanu joined the Toronto FC academy at the end of 2016, after a trial that went well. In 2018, he played for Toronto FC III, the club’s senior academy team, in League1 Ontario. On May 21, 2018, he scored two goals in a 6–1 win over Toronto Skillz FC.
Wolverhampton Wanderers
After leaving Toronto FC in August 2018, Corbeanu tried out for the English club Leicester City, but it didn’t work out. Wolverhampton Wanderers’ academy later offered him a scholarship, and he played for the club’s U16 and U18 teams. In the summer of 2019, he went to China with the first team for preseason training. In 2020, he joined the club’s U23 development team.
Corbeanu played for the Wolves U23 team for nine games and scored four goals. In October 2020, he signed a professional contract with the main team. After that, he became a regular on the Wolves bench. He made his Premier League debut on May 16, 2021, when he came on as a second-half substitute in a game against Tottenham Hotspur, which they lost 2-0.
Loan to Sheffield Wednesday
Corbeanu went on loan to EFL League One team Sheffield Wednesday on August 2, 2021. He played his first game for the Owls on August 28 at Morecambe, where they lost by one goal. On November 2, Corbeanu scored his first goal as a senior player. It was the first goal in a 3–0 win over Sunderland.
Loan to Milton Keynes Dons
Wolves called Corbeanu back from his loan early on January 6, 2022, and sent him back out on loan to League One club Milton Keynes Dons for the rest of the 2021–22 season. On January 11, he made his debut in a 1–0 win over rivals AFC Wimbledon at home.
Four days later, he scored his first goal for the team in a 2–1 win over Portsmouth on the road. Corbeanu went on to play 17 times for MK Dons, helping the team finish in third place and get into the play-offs.
Loan to Blackpool
Corbeanu went on loan to EFL Championship club Blackpool on July 28, 2022. He stayed there for the whole 2022–23 season. He played his first game for the club on July 29. He came on as a substitute in the second half of a one-goal win over Reading at Bloomfield Road.
International career
Corbeanu contacted the Romanian federation, who were aware of his development, after learning he had not been chosen for the Canadian U15 team. He started off as a player for Romania at the U16 and U17 levels, scoring twice against the Republic of Ireland in his debut game with the U16 team. He spent two years with the Romanian young teams before leaving in 2019 because he wanted to continue to be eligible for Canada’s senior squad.
He was initially called up to the Canadian senior team in December 2020 for a training camp in January, however he later withdrew due to Wolves club obligations. Prior to Canada’s 2022 World Cup qualification games against Bermuda and the Cayman Islands, he was called up to the senior squad for the first time in March 2021.
On March 25, 2021, against Bermuda, he made his debut as a 77th-minute substitute, scoring Canada’s fifth goal in a 5-1 triumph four minutes into his debut.
Corbeanu was picked to Canada’s preliminary team for the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup in June 2021. He was included in the squad that would compete in the event on July 1, 2021.Corbeanu won the title of 2021 Canada Soccer Youth Player of the Year in December.
