In his two seasons with the club, he played 47 games and scored 3 goals. Klose had played in four test games for Basel’s first team and wanted to join them for the 2009–10 season, but the manager at the time, Thorsten Fink, wanted Klose to wait another year. Klose made the choice to go on.

Klose played in 29 games as FC Thun won the Swiss Challenge League in 2009–10. On December 5, he scored in a 4–0 home win over FC Gossau. The next season, he played 30 times in the Super League and scored three times.

He played 13 times in the league from August to November, and then 8 times in the Regionalliga Bayern from March to May. On May 8, he scored the only goal against FC Ingolstadt 04 II. He went back to the first team the next season and scored twice in 32 Bundesliga games. [3]

VfL Wolfsburg

Klose signed a four-year deal with VfL Wolfsburg on July 1, 2013. He was sent off in his first game for Wolfsburg, a 2-0 loss to rivals Hannover 96 on the road on August 10. He only played in 9 more league games, with only 4 more starts. But he played all 90 minutes as Wolfsburg beat Borussia Dortmund 3–1 to win the DFB-Pokal for the first time on May 30, 2015.

Norwich City

In September 2016, Jonny Howson, Cameron Jerome, Klose, and Jacob Murphy, from left to right, made a defensive wall against Wigan Athletic. On January 18, 2016, Klose signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with Premier League team Norwich City for a price that was not made public.

On February 2, he made his debut in a 3–0 home loss to Tottenham Hotspur. He played ten games for the Canaries, who were later relegated. On April 2, he scored the first goal in a 3–2 win over Newcastle United at Carrow Road.

In 2018–19, Klose played 31 times for Norwich, which won the EFL Championship. He scored four goals, including two in a 2–1 win at Nottingham Forest on October 20, 2018. He signed a new three-year deal with the club on May 20, 2019, which will keep him there until 2022.

Eight days later, he got his first red card for Norwich when he tripped Odion Ighalo during a 2–1 home FA Cup loss to Manchester United in extra time.

Basel lost 1-2 to Swiss champions Young Boys in that game. In the home game at St. Jakob-Park on December 9, 2020, he scored his first goal for his team. It was the game’s first goal, and Basel went on to beat Sion 4–2.

This was one of Basel’s worst seasons, and on February 17, 2021, when they played Winterthur in the 2020–21 Swiss Cup in their own St. Jakob-Park, it was a disaster. Early on, the outsiders took the lead, and just before halftime, they scored again.

After halftime, FCW did whatever they wanted with the FCB defense and scored three more goals in the next ten minutes. The final result was 6–2. This is the most goals the team has given up at home since their stadium opened on March 15, 2001. Klose played the whole game, and both he and the back four were criticized a lot afterwards.

The return of Klose to his original club was not a good one in terms of sportsmanship. Klose could not put on the kind of athletic shoe that was expected of him. The club said on May 22, 2021, that Klose’s contract, which was set to end on June 30, 2021, would not be renewed and that he would be going back to Norwich.
