About Millwall

Millwall Football Club is a professional football club in Bermondsey, South East London, England. They compete in the EFL Championship, the second tier of English football. Founded as Millwall Rovers in 1885, the club has retained its name despite last playing in the Millwall area of the Isle of Dogs in 1910.

From then until 1993, the club played at what is now called The Old Den at New Cross, before moving to their present stadium nearby, called The Den. The club’s traditional crest is a rampant lion, referenced in the team’s nickname ‘Los Leones’. Millwall’s traditional kit consists of dark blue shirts, white shorts, and blue socks.

Millwall was one of the founding members of the Southern League in 1894. They competed in it for 22 seasons until 1920, claiming the title twice in 1895 and 1896. Since joining the Football League in the 1920-21 season, the club has been promoted eleven times (five times as champions in 1928, 1938, 1962, 1988, and 2001) and relegated nine times. They have spent 89 of their 96 seasons in the football league yo-yo between the second and third tier.

The club had a brief spell in the top flight between 1988 and 1990, in which they achieved their best league finish of 10th place in the First Division in 1988–89. Millwall reached the 2004 FA Cup final and qualified for Europe for the first time in their history, playing in the UEFA Cup. The club has also won two League One play-off finals in 2010 and 2017, the Football League Group Cup in 1983, and were finalists for the Football League Trophy in 1999.

In the media, Millwall supporters have often been associated with hooliganism, and numerous fictional films have been made about their notoriety. The fans are known for their terrace chant “Nobody likes us, we don’t care.” it has a long-standing rivalry with West Ham United. The local derby between the two teams has been contested almost a hundred times since 1899. Millwall Home Stadium

The Den is a football stadium in New Cross, southeast London, and the home of Millwall Football Club. The Den is adjacent to the South London Railway, which originates from London Bridge, and a quarter of a mile from the Old Den, which it replaced in 1993.

Built on a former site of homes, a church, and the Senegal Fields playing fields, the Den has a seated capacity of 20,146. However, it is restricted to approximately 18,100 to allow for the segregation of visiting fans and the security measures of the crew. The highest match attendance in the 2018-19 season was 17,195.

The Den is the sixth stadium Millwall has occupied since its formation in the Millwall area of the Isle of Dogs in 1885. Previous grounds include Glengall Road (1885–1886), Lord Nelson Ground (1886–1890), The Athletic Grounds ( 1890–1901), North Greenwich (1901–1910), and The Old Den (1910–1993).
