About Fiorentina

ACF Fiorentina, commonly known as Fiorentina ([fjorenˈtiːna]), is an Italian professional football club based in Florence, Tuscany, Italy. The original team was founded by a merger in August 1926, while the current club was re-founded in August 2002 following the bankruptcy. Fiorentina has played at the highest level of Italian football for most of their existence; only four clubs have played in more Serie A seasons.

Fiorentina won two Italian championships, in 1955–56 and again in 1968–69, as well as six Coppa Italia trophies and one Supercoppa Italiana. On the European stage, Fiorentina won the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1960–61, losing the final a year later.

Fiorentina History

Della Valle era: from the fourth tier to Europe (the 2000s and 2010s)

The club was quickly re-established in August 2002 as Associazione Calcio Fiorentina e Florentia Viola with shoe and leather businessman Diego Della Valle as the new owner and the club was admitted to Serie C2, the fourth tier of Italian football. The only player to remain at the club in the new incarnation of him was Angelo Di Livio, whose commitment to the club’s cause won him over even more with the fans. With the help of Di Livio and 30-goal striker Christian Riganò, the club won their Serie C2 group quite easily, which would normally have led to promotion to Serie C1. However, due to the bizarre Catania Case (Catania Case), the club skipped Serie C1 and was admitted to Serie B, something that was only possible thanks to the decision of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) to resolve the situation.
