Joe Ralls Football Career

Here, we take a closer look at his Football career so far.

Joe Ralls Club Career

Cardiff City

Ralls began his professional career with Aldershot Town, where he played one game for the first team in a match against Bagshot in the Aldershot Senior Cup at the age of just 15 after a number of senior players were rested, before switching to Farnborough under-16s. He and Jordan Carter were discovered by Cardiff City scouts, and Cardiff paid a minor signing bonus to secure the two players.

Prior to joining Cardiff, he had previously consented to participate in a trial game for Premier League team Fulham, but this was postponed. Everton and Notts County both showed an interest in him. Then, Cardiff academy boss Neal Ardley claimed that after saying he intended to offer Ralls a contract, he had to persuade other club employees about Ralls.

Aidan Whelan, the young coach at Farnborough, made a statement after leaving the team “We recognised his brilliance as soon as he joined our team. He was far superior to competitors of the same age “.

Prior to a Football League Cup match against Oxford United on August 10, 2011, manager Malky Mackay contacted Ardley to find out if players in the academy setup would be prepared to join the first team for the game after Cardiff was left with a reduced squad owing to international call-ups.

Mamadou Diallo, Deji Oshilaja, and Ralls were all suggested to Mackay by Ardley, and Ralls and Oshilaja were ultimately selected for the match’s substitutes bench. Later, Mackay said that before including Ralls in the contest, he knew virtually nothing about the man.

At the age of 17, Ralls entered the game after 67 minutes in place of Andrew Taylor as Cardiff went on to win 3-1 in overtime. 13 days later, he was given his first start in the competition’s second round against Huddersfield Town. He played 81 minutes before being substituted by Peter Whittingham.

Loan to Yeovil Town

Ralls was made available for loan after Cardiff was promoted to the Premier League at the conclusion of the 2012–13 campaign because there were few first-team opportunities in the top division. He signed a loan agreement with the newly promoted Championship team Yeovil Town on August 14 and will remain there through January 2014 in order to gain experience.

On August 17, after replacing Kevin Dawson as a substitute during a 2-0 loss to Burnley, he made his club debut. In his fourth game for the Glovers, on September 14, he scored his team’s lone goal in a 1-1 tie with Sheffield Wednesday, the first goal the squad had scored since Ed Upson’s game-winning goal on the season’s first day a month earlier.

Yeovil has worked out extremely nicely, and I believe I’ll improve my game here before I return to Cardiff, said Ralls in expressing his happiness at joining the Glovers. He briefly returned to Cardiff after his loan agreement expired and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed Cardiff’s manager so the Norwegian could evaluate his team. As a result, he missed Yeovil’s FA Cup triumph over Leyton Orient.

Ralls agreed to extend his loan with Yeovil until the end of the season on January 11, 2014, however, Yeovil was willing to prolong the loan agreement.

Return to Cardiff

When Ralls returned to Cardiff after a loan with Yeovil, manager Solskjr offered him a three-year extension to his contract at the Cardiff City Stadium. He also received the man of the match award in his first game of the 2014–15 season, a 2-1 victory over Coventry City in the Football League Cup first round.

Despite Solskjr leaving Cardiff soon after, Ralls continued to flourish under newly appointed manager Russell Slade. During the 2014–15 season, Ralls became a regular in the first team, playing primarily on the left side of midfield due to fierce competition for positions in the centre of the field from Peter Whittingham and Aron Gunnarsson. Ralls played a total of 31 games and scored four goals before being given a new five–year contract with the club that would run until

Joe Ralls International career

Ralls was given his first summons to play for England on the international stage in February 2012, when the England Under-19 team needed a replacement for the injured Robert Hall for a match against the Czech Republic. Ralls made his debut in English by coming on as a substitute during the games.
