Kasper Peter Schmeichel (born 5 November 1986) is a Danish professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Premier League club Leicester City, where he serves as captain, and for the Denmark national team.

He is the son of former Manchester United goalkeeper and Danish international Peter Schmeichel.

Schmeichel began his career at Manchester City but had spells on loan at Darlington, Bury and Falkirk before making his Manchester City debut. Although Schmeichel seemed to have made City’s number 1 shirt his own at the start of the 2007–08 season, the appearance of Joe Hart resulted in Schmeichel being loaned out to Cardiff City.

The signing of Republic of Ireland international Shay Given in January 2009 meant that Schmeichel fell further down the City pecking order, and in August 2009, he was allowed to link up with former manager Sven-Göran Eriksson at Notts. Club Career

Manchester City

Schmeichel, a Copenhagen native, signed a long-term contract with Manchester City in September 2002 that included school, academic, and professional stipulations. He made his professional first-team debut against Peterborough United at the Darlington Arena on January 14, 2006, after being loaned to League Two club, Darlington.
