Who Is Kasper Schmeichel?

Kasper Peter Schmeichel (born 5 November 1986) is a Danish professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Premier League club Leicester City, where he serves as captain, and for the Denmark national team.

He is the son of former Manchester United goalkeeper and Danish international Peter Schmeichel.

Schmeichel began his career at Manchester City but had spells on loan at Darlington, Bury and Falkirk before making his Manchester City debut. Although Schmeichel seemed to have made City’s number 1 shirt his own at the start of the 2007–08 season, the appearance of Joe Hart resulted in Schmeichel being loaned out to Cardiff City.

The signing of Republic of Ireland international Shay Given in January 2009 meant that Schmeichel fell further down the City pecking order, and in August 2009, he was allowed to link up with former manager Sven-Göran Eriksson at Notts. Club Career

Manchester City

Schmeichel, a Copenhagen native, signed a long-term contract with Manchester City in September 2002 that included school, academic, and professional stipulations. He made his professional first-team debut against Peterborough United at the Darlington Arena on January 14, 2006, after being loaned to League Two club, Darlington.

Kasper Schmeichel conceded a goal to Peterborough striker James Quinn during Darlington’s 2-1 victory. Three days later, he defeated Grimsby Town to record his first shutout. Before going back to Manchester City, he made two more appearances.

Notts County

Schmeichel reportedly shattered the club’s previous transfer record when he joined for League Two team Notts County on August 14, 2009. Schmeichel’s transfer brought him back into contact with Sven-Göran Eriksson, the director of football at Notts who had recently replaced Eriksson as manager of Manchester City. At £1 million a year, he was the club’s highest-paid player.

Kasper Schmeichel signed a two-year contract with Leeds United on May 27, 2010 after being linked to both Premier League and Bundesliga teams. He started playing for the team on July 1, 2010. 2015–16 season

In August 2004, while still playing for Manchester City, Kasper Schmeichel received a call-up for the Denmark national under-19 team. On September 2, 2004, he made his international debut in a 0-0 tie with Northern Ireland. He continued to compete with Kenneth Stenild and Michael Tornes for the goalkeeping position by participating in eight under-19 international matches up until March 2005. While at Bury, he was called up for the under-20 team in October 2005, although he didn’t play until October 2006.
