Luke Garbutt Club Career
Everton
This was the start of his professional career. Soon after he graduated from high school, Everton signed him from their academy for an initial fee of £600,000 because the two clubs couldn’t agree on a fee. During the 2011–12 season, he spent time on loan at Cheltenham Town.
Garbutt made his Everton debut during the 2012–13 season. He came on at halftime of a 5–0 League Cup second-round win over Leyton Orient on August 29, 2012. Garbutt signed a new two-year deal with Everton before the 2013–14 season and spent the season on loan at Colchester United.
In April 2014, Garbutt made his Premier League debut as a late substitute at Southampton. He followed that up by making his first appearance for England‘s Under-21s in a 3–1 win over Wales in a European Championship qualifying game the next month.
Cheltenham Town
In September 2011, he went on loan to Cheltenham Town for a month. On October 4, 2011, he made his first professional appearance when Cheltenham beat Wycombe Wanderers 3–1 in the Football League Trophy.
His FA Cup debut was memorable because Cheltenham was put in a game away from home against Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur. Tottenham won 3–0. He kept getting more time on loan, and on January 31, 2012, he scored his first goal.
It was a free kick in a 3–1 win at Macclesfield, which put Cheltenham on top of the league. In the next game, he scored again. This time, he scored the first goal against Crawley Town from outside the area. On February 13, he got another five weeks added to his loan period.
Colchester United FC
Garbutt joined League One team Colchester United on September 13, 2013, for a 28-day loan. The next day, he played his first game, a 2–2 draw against Bradford City at Valley Parade. Everton called Garbutt back from his loan on January 28, 2014, because Bryan Oviedo had been hurt for a long time.
Return to Everton
Garbutt made his first start for the club at the beginning of the 2014–15 season in a League Cup loss to Swansea City in September. He then started the last two UEFA Europa League group stage games, helping Everton finish first with a clean sheet in a 2-0 win away to Wolfsburg.

On July 25, 2015, Garbutt was loaned to Fulham for the 2015–16 Championship season. On October 4, 2015, he made his debut in a 2–2 draw with Charlton Athletic at The Valley. On December 19, 2015, in a 2–2 tie with Bolton Wanderers, he scored his first goal for Fulham. When he returned from his loan, he had played 26 games for the London club and scored once.
The Wigan Athletic
On August 16, 2016, Garbutt returned to the Championship with a four-and-a-half-month loan to the newly promoted Wigan Athletic. On August 20, 2018, he played his first game for the team, which lost 4–3 to Nottingham Forest. During his loan to Wigan, Garbutt played 8 games for the team.
Oxford Utd
Garbutt went on loan to League One club Oxford United on July 2, 2018. On February 19, 2019, he scored his first goal for the team in a 4–2 loss to Accrington Stanley. During his time at the Kassam Stadium, he played 36 games and scored 4 goals.
Ipswich Town
