Tottenham Hotspur to hijack Newcastle United bid for Diego Carlos?

Tottenham Hotspur is reportedly hoping to overtake Newcastle United with the signing of Sevilla center-back Diego Carlos.

The Brazilian has been heavily linked with a move to St James’ Park during the January transfer window, but the Magpies have been frustrated in their search for the Sevilla man.

Carlos himself has confirmed his desire to finish the season with Julen Lopetegui’s men, who are Real Madrid’s main rivals in the fight for the League title.

However, Football Insider reports that Spurs are now working on a deal for the 28-year-old, which would see underdog midfielder Giovani Lo Celso go the other direction.

The report adds that Lo Celso would form part of a more cash player deal for Carlos, valued at £50m, with Antonio Conte determined to bring in a new center-back within the next week.

Carlos has two goals in 30 appearances in all competitions for Sevilla this season and is under contract with Los Palanganas until the summer of 2024.
