Club Career
Parisian childhood and training
His parents, Cleto and Heidi, left the Philippines to find work in Paris in the early 1990s. Alphonse Areola was born on February 27, 1993, in Paris.
Areola made his football debut at the age of six at the Entente Sportive des Petits Anges (ESPA), in the 7th arrondissement of Paris. He first played in the field, but due to the absence of the usual goalkeeper, he was replaced in goal by his coach, a position he has not left since.
At thirteen, he signed for Paris Saint-Germain and won the U14 Federal championship. After two years at the club, he left to refine his training at INF Clairefontaine from 2008 to 2009, on the advice of the Parisian club. During his time at the INF, he was nicknamed “Superstar”.
