Club Career

Charlton Athletic

Joe Gomez was raised in Catford, Greater London to a Gambian father, and an English mother. He began his academy at close by Charlton Athletic at the age of 10 and made his debut with the club’s under-18 team when he was only 13. Despite attracting interest from several various clubs Gomez was signed to his first contract as a professional at Charlton on October 14, 2014. His first senior appearance was under the direction of manager Bob Peeters in a 4-0 League Cup victory over Colchester United at The Valley on 12 August 2014, in which he played all 90 minutes in the right-back. The following week, the player made his debut in the league with a 3-2 victory at home in the Championship against Derby County in the Championship. Joe Gomez made 24 appearances in his debut season, which included 18 starts at right-back, and at his preferred position, center-back.
