Liam Bridcutt Club Career

Chelsea

Bridcutt was born in Reading, Berkshire, and worked his way up through the youth program at Chelsea. In the summer of 2007, he signed a professional contract. He joined Yeovil Town on loan on February 8, 2008, and played his first game against Walsall the next day.

Then, on November 27, 2008, he went on loan to Watford, where he made his debut against Doncaster Rovers on November 29, 2008.

Bridcutt moved to Stockport County on loan on August 14, 2009. He stayed there until January 2010 but was sent off in his first game, a 4–2 win over Brighton & Hove Albion. He scored his first professional goal while playing for Stockport against Port Vale in a Football League Trophy game.

Brighton and Hove Albion

Bridcutt signed a five-month contract with League One team Brighton & Hove Albion on August 28, 2010. After he played well against Plymouth Argyle and Peterborough United, Gus Poyet gave him a contract extension until the end of the season on November 5, 2010. In the final seconds of Albion’s 4–3 win over Carlisle United, Bridcutt scored his first goal for the team.

After that, he scored one of the goals in Brighton’s 4–3 win over Dagenham & Redbridge, which helped them get into the Championship.

Bridcutt won Brighton’s Player of the Season award for the 2011–12 Championship season because he always played well. Bridcutt’s play in the 2012–13 Championship season earned him his second Player of the Season award. Bridcutt signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with Sunderland on January 30, 2014, after weeks of rumors and a transfer request turned down by Brighton.

This brought him back together with former Brighton coach Gus Poyet. Bridcutt signed for an undisclosed fee, which is thought to be between £3 million and £4 million. On February 1, he made his Sunderland debut in a 3–0 win over Newcastle United in the Tyne–Wear derby at St. James’ Park.

On November 26, 2015, Bridcutt went on loan to Leeds United. He played his first game for Leeds on November 28 against Queens Park Rangers. They lost 1-0. After doing well in the middle of Leeds’ midfield, Bridcutt’s loan was extended until the end of the 2015–16 season on January 5, 2016, with an eye toward a permanent move.

Bridcutt moved to Leeds United on August 16, 2016, for a price that was not made public. He signed a two-year contract. On August 20, Leeds beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 in his second game for the team. Bridcutt was named team captain on September 9, 2016, to replace Sol Bamba, who had left the team.

Bridcutt got hurt on September 14 against Blackburn Rovers, and it turned out that he had broken his foot. Because of the injury, Bridcutt will miss several months of the season.
