Manchester City completed Julian Alvarez signing

Manchester City has announced the signing of Argentinian striker Julián Álvarez from River Plate.

The 22-year-old, who celebrates his birthday today, has signed a five-and-a-half-year contract with the City for a fee believed to be worth around €17m (£14.2m) plus 1, €5 million (£1.25 million) worth of add-ons.

The city has confirmed that Álvarez will continue on loan at River Plate “at least until July 2022”.

Commenting on Alvarez’s arrival, Man City director of football Txiki Begiristain said: “Julian is a player we have monitored for some time. He is capable of operating in various attacking roles, and we strongly believe he is one of the best young players. attacking players in South America.

“I am very happy that we managed to bring him to Manchester City. I really believe that we can give him the right conditions to reach his potential and become a top-level player.”

River Plate has also confirmed the agreement for its part, and the president of the club, Jorge Brito, stated: “For us, it is a pride that one of the most important clubs in the world has been interested in a player like Julián Álvarez”.

“It is a milestone that marks the beginning of the link between River Plate and Manchester City, which we hope will bear much fruit for both clubs”.

An Argentine international, Álvarez is considered one of the brightest prospects in South American football after a brilliant 2021 campaign for River Plate, scoring 24 goals and registering 15 assists in 46 appearances in all competitions.
