About Spezia

Spezia Calcio is a professional football club based in La Spezia, Liguria, Italy. Spezia Calcio was founded in 1906 by Swiss banker Hermann Hurni (or Hurny in some documents), who played for Crystal Palace’s first amateur teams in London during his time there as a student. He played for Crystal Palace again in 1909.

Spezia’s first game kit, light blue and white, was a second-hand Crystal Palace amateur kit donated to Hurny when he returned to La Spezia. In 1911, following the decision by Alberto Picco and others to honor Pro Vercelli as an example of a small team capable of beating the big ones, a plain white jersey with black shorts and black socks was adopted, which is still worn today.
