Christiane Endler
Last year’s winner claimed the award after helping PSG end Lyon’s dominance in the French league, but then joined Lyon in June 2021 and kept a league-leading 10 clean sheets to help them regain the french title.
Just for good measure, Endler helped OL conquer Europe and, in the process, became the first Chilean to win the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Overall, a pretty good attempt at winning back-to-back The Best awards.
Endler finished second in voting for this award in both 2019 and 2020 before winning last year. She has also been included in the Women’s Champions League team of the season three times and has been voted Chile’s Player of the Year on seven separate occasions.

Ann-Katrin Berger
There may not be a tougher player on or off the pitch than Berger, who won a league and cup double with Chelsea before being part of the Germany squad that reached the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 final, during which she discovered that the thyroid cancer she had in 2017 had returned.
Berger underwent tests during the tournament in England but saved it until after the final, then returned to action for Chelsea for the current season while undergoing treatment. She kept nine clean sheets when she was named in the 2022 PFA Team of the Year, but she is rightly being applauded for the grit, toughness and character that match even her impressive talent between the sticks.
In fact, Berger started out playing forward until around the age of 16, and even operated in both positions while playing in the German fourth division, joking that she played half in goal and half up front!

The Manchester United goalkeeper made some important saves, kept four clean sheets, conceded just two goals and was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament following England’s success at Wembley.
Between 2012 and 2016, Earps earned a BA in Information Management and Business Studies from Loughborough University.

Merle Frohms

The two German winners are hoping that Frohms can help them take the next step and win the Champions League once again.
Frohms has plenty of national team experience, having represented Germany at U15, U16, U17, U19 and U20 levels before joining the senior team. Saved two penalties as Germany beat France to win the 2012 UEFA Women’s Under-17 Championship.

Alyssa Naeher
The American goalkeeper came third in the 2020 voting and was nominated again last year after helping the USA.

When Naeher isn’t keeping goals, she often uses her head to try to solve cryptic clues, much like a big fan of crossword puzzles.

Sandra Panos Garcia-Villamil
After winning the league and cup along with the Champions League in 2021, it was ‘just’ another double along with the Women’s Spanish Super Cup for Panos in Barcelona. She then appeared as Spain’s number-one goalkeeper in the women’s EURO.
Panos managed to score a goal while playing for Levante, before moving to Barcelona. He found the net from a free-kick against Espanyol.
