Marcos Alonso signed a three-year contract with ACF Fiorentina in May 2013 despite being offered another contract by Bolton manager Dougie Freedman. After the player had made nine appearances in public, Sunderland boss Gus Poyet announced on 30 December that Alonso would join the club on loan starting at the beginning of 2014.
