After the conclusion of the 2014–15 campaign, Birmingham decided to release him, and he subsequently joined League One club Fleetwood Town.

Amari’i Bell Football Career

Here, we take a closer look at his Football career so far.

Amari’i Bell Club Career

Young adulthood and career

Bell was raised in Birmingham’s Quinton neighbourhood and attended Four Dwellings High School. He was born in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire. When he was younger, he participated in West Bromwich Albion‘s youth program before moving on to Solihull Moors. In 2011, he enrolled in Birmingham City’s academy.

Bell committed to a one-year professional contract in June 2012. During the 2012–13 season, he consistently contributed to the development squad, earning him a second one–year contract with an additional year’s option.

Bell signed a loan deal with Nuneaton Town in July 2013 that would last until January. He made his debut as a left wing-back in the season’s first game, a 1-0 victory at Macclesfield Town.

While the player himself was more critical and acknowledged the need to minimize mistakes like “a bit in the end where I took a poor touch and they could have scored from it,” the local newspaper claimed that he “shone.” Except for one match missed due to a dead leg, he held his spot in the starting eleven as Nuneaton went unbeaten for the first nine games but was unexpectedly called up by his parent club on September 20.

Debut with Birmingham City’s first team

Before Birmingham’s third-round League Cup match against Swansea City on September 25, Bell was granted a squad number and was being considered for a defensive position. Kyle Bartley was ineligible, while David Murphy was being rested after just recently making his long-awaited return from injury.

He didn’t participate in the game, not even as a replacement who wasn’t needed, and he returned to Nuneaton. Bell regained his position at left back, playing an additional eleven times in the Conference Premier and once in the FA Cup, before Birmingham called him back on December 9 when Murphy was once more ill and starting left back Mitch Hancox injured his knee.

He was listed as a replacement for Birmingham’s subsequent game, a 2-0 victory away to AFC Bournemouth, but did not play.

As a late replacement for Hancox, who had sustained an ankle injury, Bell made his first-team debut on January 28, 2014, starting at left back against Championship leaders Leicester City. He participated throughout the 2-1 loss.

Added loan periods

Before joining Conference Premier club Kidderminster Harriers on a youth loan through the end of the season on March 6, 2014, that was his final first-team outing. He made his club debut in a win over Macclesfield for the second time that season as a stoppage-time substitute as Kidderminster maintained a 2-1 lead.

He opened the scoring in a 2-0 victory over Cambridge United on April 15 by scoring his first goal in senior football.

Before the 2014–15 season, Bell signed a loan agreement with League Two team Mansfield Town through January 2015, although he was recalled only three games into the season after seeing no action.

He joined League One’s Swindon Town on a youth loan on September 26, 2014, and stayed there until January 3, 2015. By participating in games with a confident squad, he hoped to rebuild his confidence.

He was immediately inserted into the starting lineup for Swindon’s 3-0 victory over Barnsley. When Liverpool loanee Brad Smith was replaced by Bell in the starting lineup for six games in October, Harry Toffolo took Bell’s spot. For Bell’s tenure with the team, he was primarily utilized as a late substitute.

Bell joined League One Gillingham on loan in March 2015 and stayed there throughout the campaign. He replaced the injured Joe Martin in the starting lineup for the 2-2 draw between Gillingham and Colchester United. He then started the next five games before losing his place and only making one more appearance as a very late substitute.

Town, Fleetwood

Bell will be released after Birmingham elected not to exercise their right to a further year of his contract.

Bell agreed to join League One team Fleetwood Town on July 1, 2015, after his contract with Birmingham expired, despite rumours that Gillingham was interested. He immediately made a side move to the left wing-back.

In his fourth game, a 4-3 victory away at Bury, he assisted on Tyler Hornby-Forbes’ first Football League goal. In the next game, a 4-0 win against Colchester United, he set up two goals. Bell and Hornby-Forbes both impressed Bell’s assistant manager Chris Lucketti, who said of them: “With their athleticism, their attitude, their drive to win, and the running strength they have, they were different class. It changed the tide in our favour.”

With a hamstring injury that kept him out of some of the preseason in 2016–17, Bell was still able to establish himself as a first-team regular under yet another new manager, Uwe Rösler. In his 71st game, an FA Cup replay against Southport on November 15, 2016, he scored his first goal for Fleetwood.

Being played as a wing-back rather than a full-back improved his attacking ambitions. The following week, he scored his second league goal. Bell attracted interest from several teams during the January 2017 transfer window, including Brighton & Hove Albion, Crystal Palace, and West Ham United.

Bell, according to Rösler, has improved his consistency and would benefit from sticking at Fleetwood at least through the rest of the season.

“He does not want to join a football team and be a substitute to advance. He wants to be purchased for a high price and to start out there as their left-back. “He did continue, and his late equalizer against Charlton helped Fleetwood extend its winning streak to 18 games. Fleetwood reached the playoffs, where Bradford City defeated them, and he made 53 appearances to finish the season, bringing his total for the club to 104.

Burnley Rovers

Bell’s contract with Fleetwood was set to expire after the 2017–18 campaign, and it was unlikely that he would sign a new one. Blackburn Rovers, a League One team, and Fleetwood reached an agreement on his transfer during the January transfer window, and the player signed a two-and-a-half-year contract on January 19, 2018.

Although the amount was not announced, Sky Sports believed it to be around $300,000. Over the course of what eventually became a three-and-a-half-year stint, he helped them be promoted to establish themselves in the Championship by making 99 appearances across all competitions. The team parted ways when Bell’s contract with Blackburn Rovers expired at the end of the 2020–21 season.

Town of Luton

When he became a free agent on July 1, 2021, Bell reached an agreement with Luton Town, another Championship team, that would begin on that date.

Amari’i Bell International career

Before team selection for the CONCACAF Gold Cup in July 2019, Bell was invited to play for the Jamaican national team in May 2019. However, he withdrew due to an injury. Because his grandparents were born there, he was eligible for Jamaica.

He was among six uncapped English-born players who were called up in March 2021. This time, he accepted, and on March 25, 2021, in Austria, he started a friendly match against the United States. He took the field for the entire game, which Jamaica defeated 4-1. He participated in all three of the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup team group games, although he was absent for the quarterfinal loss to the United States.
