On April 16, 2009, he made his reserve team debut against Manchester United in a 2-0 loss in the Premier Reserve League North. In the summer of 2009, Bidwell’s advancement led to his signing a scholarship agreement.

On December 17, 2009, Bidwell received his first call-up to the first team for a dead-rubber Europa League group stage match at home against BATE Borisov. He played the entire 90 minutes of the 1-0 loss. He became the youngest player in Everton history to play in a European match with that outing.

Brentford

After Sam Wood and Blair Adams left the team and left a hole at left back and left midfield, Brentford signed Bidwell on a loan deal on November 24, 2011, that would last until January 8, 2012. He made his debut on December 6 when he started the shootout loss to Barnet in the Southern Area semifinal of the Football League Trophy.

The next match at Griffin Park saw Bidwell make his league debut, helping the Bees defeat Hartlepool United 2-1. Bidwell’s loan was extended due to his strong play through completing the 2011–12 campaign.

On January 28, 2012, Bidwell gave hat-trick hero Gary Alexander two assists in a 5-2 victory over Wycombe Wanderers. Despite claiming the left-back position as his own, Bidwell moved to left midfield late in the season when Pim Balkestein resumed his fitness. He made 25 appearances in 2011–12 and was essentially always there till the end of the season.

Bidwell was appointed captain for the 2015–16 season following the retirement of club captain Kevin O’Connor and the exits of interim captains Tony Craig and Jonathan Douglas. Seven weeks later, against Preston North End, he scored his second goal via a free kick. On April 23, 2016, he scored his third goal in a 4-1 defeat of Milton Keynes Dons. He missed just one game all season, and in May 2016, negotiations for a contract extension began.

The discussions were unsuccessful, and on July 1, 2016, Bidwell quit the club. Bidwell played 211 times for Griffin Park throughout four and a half seasons, tallying three goals.
